On Sunday June 6, La Cala Resort has a very special appointment with the Cudeca Foundation adding another year to the trajectory of one of the most important events from the point of view of solidarity. The aim is to raise funds to continue the Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice special kind of caring through the XXVII CUDECA Cup Golf Tournament of La Cala Golf in La Cala Resort from 9.00h.
This is one of the most relevant charity tournaments on the Costa del Sol that has been held in La Cala Resort for the last 27 years. The CUDECA Cup has a new appointment on Sunday 6th of June at the Campo America. The aim is to raise funds for the Cudeca Hospice.
The silver anniversary of this traditional trophy was celebrated the year before the Covid pandemic. Thanks to the proceeds from this tournament, La Cala Resort donated CUDECA the funds to get an assistance vehicle sponsored by the resort and the members of the golf club. This has meant “an invaluable support for the work of assistance and palliative care in the homes of patients”, declared one of the doctors in CUDECA.
Although Cudeca has continued to look after all its patients, the pandemic crisis has dealt a severe blow to the charity’s finances, in particular through the effect on its main source of income, the charity shops, which had to close for two months and which are now trying to recoup their sales; and on fundraising events, which have come to a standstill. As the pandemic continues to rage, Cudeca faces greater uncertainty and is experiencing very worrying losses. In 2021, losses could amount to between 700,000 and a million euros.
The campaign, whose slogan is “Join the Sunflower Effect”, aimed, with the help of the local community, to raise 185,000 euros to maintain for one year a multidisciplinary Home Care team made up of a doctor, a nurse, a psychologist and a social worker, all specialised in palliative care. Such a team looks after an average of 250 patients in their own homes, making an average of three to four home visits every day, giving medical assistance and all the psychological and social support which the patients, and their families, need. By the end of January as to coincide with the closure of the Sunflower Effect Campaign, Cudeca has been able to inform the community that the campaign was successfully finished having fundraised more than 186,000€.
The chosen enclave for the celebration of the XXVII golf tournament is the Campo América.
